Santa Rosa, California (March 2, 2010) -- Organizers of Wineries Unlimited, the largest vineyard and winery conference and tradeshow east of the Rocky Mountains, announce highlights of the Trade Show activities. Produced by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine since 1976, Wineries Unlimited (www.wineriesunlimited.com) takes place March 9-12, 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center (www.vfconventioncenter.com), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in suburban Philadelphia.

Wineries Unlimited presents two days and over 100,000 square feet of exhibitor space on two levels of the convention center with approximately 225 exhibiting companies and 315 exhibitor booths: Wednesday, March 10, 10 am to 5:30 pm, and Thursday, March 11, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. The popular Grazing Buffet Lunch returns Thursday, noon to 1:30pm at stations placed throughout the exhibit hall.

Passes for Pink Slips
Unemployed winery and supplier workers are invited to attend one day of the Trade Show via a complimentary pass by presenting a bona fide "pink slip" (employment release from a recognized company) at the registration desk.

The "buyers' trade show" for the Eastern wine industry
Wineries Unlimited offers grape growers and vintners the opportunity to fulfill their annual operational needs by inspecting new products and meeting supplier representatives.

Traditionally, attendees purchase much of what they need to manage a successful vineyard or winery including barrels, bottles, corks, chemicals, equipment, grapevines, insurance, irrigation, machinery, packaging, software, soil testing equipment, tasting room merchandise, trucking services and a host of other items.

Many of the suppliers are launching new products and services.

Envino of Burlingame, California will present recyclable plastic wine bottles in one liter, 750 ml and 187 ml sizes.

Wine Appreciation Guild of San Francisco, California will unveil the Wine Pillow, an inflatable travel bag that protects wine in checked luggage.

Gusmer Enterprises Inc. of Mountainside, New Jersey will show OenoFoss, a compact analytical instrument that measures glucose/fructose, pH, total acidity, volatile acid, malic acid, alcohol and color in two minutes with a one-drop sample.

Harrisburg Area Community College in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania will discuss its new viticulture and enology certificate and degree programs.

Vintage Nurseries of Wasco, California is establishing new rootstock blocks sourced from a UC Davis FPS "next generation" vineyard that have been tested against crown gall disease.

Silent and Live Auctions

Benefiting scholarship programs of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture's eastern section, Wineries Unlimited presents a Silent Auction both days of the trade show as well as a Live Auction at the Best of the East Grand Gala.

Wineries Unlimited Announces Details of Wine Marketing Programming:
Thursday Sessions and Friday Workshop

Santa Rosa, California (February 4, 2010)
- Wineries Unlimited, the nation's second largest vineyard and winery conference and trade show, presents two of the most creative wine marketing consultants in the country during two full days of programming: Elizabeth Slater of InShort Marketing and Paul Wagner of Balzac Communications. Produced by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine since 1976, Wineries Unlimited (www.wineriesunlimited.com) takes place March 9-12, 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center (www.vfconventioncenter.com), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in suburban Philadelphia.

Slater and Wagner will conduct five hours of sessions on Thursday, March 11 that address the background issues of marketing theory and provide insight of the U.S. wine market.

Building on that foundation during the daylong Friday workshop, attendees will learn how to use a variety of specific tactics and tools as they follow the theme of "Building Community Around Your Brand". With different production volumes, marketing plans and programs, vintners can determine the most effective means for their specific situations.

"It's important that the wineries are as grounded in marketing and promotion as they are in winemaking and grape growing," said Slater. "Our goal is that every attendee leaves with marketing knowledge they can use today and five years from now."

"We start with the basics," said Wagner, "and then take attendees through every possible practical step to a better marketing and sales plan with tons of specific examples and tactics they can implement today."

Richard Leahy, program director and East Coast editor of Vineyard & Winery Management, cites three important reasons for Eastern wineries to attend these sessions that relate to the conference theme, "Balancing Quality and Costs for Profit":

•    As U.S. wine consumption rises, and the recession continues, international producers are targeting the U.S. market, and all U.S. producers have to aggressively market to stay competitive.
•    Distribution is consolidating and the channel is considered increasingly unproductive for small/regional wineries, putting the emphasis on other channels such as tasting rooms, web sales, and wine clubs.
•    Each generation responds to different marketing media and techniques, and wineries should become comfortable with the means of reaching out to various generational segments.

Wineries Unlimited 2010 Announces Conference Theme:
‘Balancing Costs and Quality for Profit'

Santa Rosa, California (January 20, 2010)
-- "Balancing Costs and Quality for Profit" is the conference theme of the upcoming Wineries Unlimited, the second largest vineyard and winery conference and tradeshow in North America. Produced by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine since 1976, Wineries Unlimited (www.wineriesunlimited.com) takes place March 9-12, 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center (www.vfconventioncenter.com), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in suburban Philadelphia.

"The conference theme, ‘Balancing Costs and Quality for Profit', is both relevant and a top priority," said Richard Leahy, program director and East Coast editor of Vineyard & Winery Management.

As with other goods, consumers are now buying wine more cautiously and spending less, while producers struggle to lower inventories and keep down costs. "Despite the recession, we can't afford to sacrifice wine quality, but we must stay profitable; the challenge is how to find the right balance that works for vineyards, wineries and their customers," Leahy explains.

"Balancing Costs and Quality for Profit" is also the title of a March 11 plenary session conducted by researchers Keith Striegler, director and Viticulture Program leader at the Institute for Continental Climate Viticulture and Enology at the University of Missouri; and Chris Gerling, extension enologist at Cornell University in New York. Both men will discuss how they interpret the conference theme from their respective professional viewpoints, and later, present four specialized sessions (see http://wineriesunlimited.vwm-online.com/speakers_topics/index.asp for a complete schedule).

Both Striegler and Gerling's presentations are sponsored by the American Society for Enology and Viticulture, Eastern Section; the professional organization is also providing members as moderators for enology and viticulture-oriented seminars.

"This year's program is designed to address the concerns of Eastern wineries and grape growers, and help them thrive in today's marketplace," said Robert Merletti, publisher of Vineyard & Winery Management. "Attendees will have access to topnotch speakers with international experience and credentials."

Examples of other seminars on the conference theme include "Top Wines with Good Economics", "Managing Packaging Costs while Maximizing Shelf Appeal", "Self Distribution", "Building Community Around Your Brand", and "Extreme Viticulture: How to Get Top Dollar."

Wineries Unlimited 2010 Announces Silent and Live Auctions
to benefit scholarship programs of the ASEV Eastern Section

Santa Rosa, California (January 11, 2010)
-- Organizers of Wineries Unlimited, the largest vineyard and winery conference and tradeshow east of the Rocky Mountains, announce Silent and Live Auctions to benefit the scholarship program of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture's eastern section. Produced by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine since 1976, Wineries Unlimited (www.wineriesunlimited.com) takes place March 9-12, 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center (www.vfconventioncenter.com), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in suburban Philadelphia.

"Vineyard & Winery Management is a longstanding supporter of ASEV-ES because it is the foundation of the research that has increased Eastern winery growth and quality over the last few decades," said Vineyard & Winery Management Publisher Robert Merletti.

According to a January 2007 report by MKF Research LLC, "The growth of viticulture and enology research and education resources has not kept pace with the expansion of this industry across the country. For an industry which generates a million jobs, over $162 billion in economic value and pays more than $17 billion in taxes, the amount of support received for its fundamental development is amazingly small.

"In 2005, the total spent on research and education in viticulture and enology was $31.2 million, 21% of which was provided by industry. While state funding for viticulture and enology research, education and extension has been increasing or at least requested, substantial additional funds are needed to allow for the consistent growth in quality and value of these investments to ensure American wine and viticulture remains competitive."

Over $14,000 was raised during the Silent and Live Auctions at Wineries Unlimited 2009. All proceeds benefit the ASEV/ES Scholarship Program. Companies interested in contributing auction items should contact Ellie Butz from ASEV/ES via 765.412.7183 or elliebutz@gmail.com.

The Silent Auction (items up to $399 in value) is conducted on the floor of the two-day trade show while the Live Auction (donations over $400) is held at the Best of the East Grand Tasting and Gala.

HL&W, a complete marketing and communications agency, is donating a consultative strategic marketing plan valued at $7,500.

Borra Vineyards is donating two tons of estate-grown grapes from the Clements Hills of Lodi, California ($2400 value, shipping not included).

Art Carmichael of WineAmerica and Mark Bassel of Bruni Glass Packaging Inc. are the auctioneers.

Andy Beckstoffer at Wineries Unlimited 2010:
Renowned Napa Grape Grower to Deliver Keynote Address

Santa Rosa, California (December 17, 2009)
-- Andy Beckstoffer, the most highly regarded independent wine-grape grower in Northern California, will deliver the keynote address at Wineries Unlimited, the largest vineyard and winery tradeshow and conference east of the Rocky Mountains. Produced by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine since 1976, the annual event takes place March 9-12, 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center (www.vfconventioncenter.com), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in suburban Philadelphia.

Attendees, 21 and older, may take a virtual tour or register for a variety of packages via www.wineriesunlimited.com while phone registration is available at 866.483.0172 and general information at 800.535.5670. Early-bird rates apply through January 31, 2010.

Beckstoffer headlines the Keynote Speaker Luncheon on March 10, and joins several outstanding Eastern grape growers during the panel discussion "Extreme Viticulture: What It Takes to Get Top Dollar" later that day.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Beckstoffer garnered a BS in engineering at Virginia Tech and an MBA at Dartmouth. As president of Beckstoffer Vineyards, his empire stretches through the North Coast counties of Napa, Mendocino and Lake. As a visionary, Beckstoffer was responsible for planting 500 acres of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in the early 1970s, a remarkable feat considering only 682 existed in 1969. As a 33-year-old entrepreneur, he devised a 1973 leveraged buyout of a vineyard company and 1,200 acres of land in Napa and Mendocino with an investment of only $7,500 in cash.

His many accomplishments include founding the Napa Valley Grape Growers Association (NVGGA) in 1975, and introducing the modern-era practice of pricing a ton of grapes on the future bottle price (i.e. bottle price times 100 equals the cost of a ton of grapes). The NVGGA presented him with its first "Grower of the Year" award in 2006 while in 2007, the Napa County Farm Bureau named him "Agriculturist of Year" and he received the first-ever "U.S. Congressional Wine Caucus Commendation".

Wineries Unlimited offers four days of seminars conducted by renowned specialists from the North American wine industry: sessions focused on industry newcomers (Mar 9), two days of multi-track sessions on viticulture, enology and finance/management/marketing (Mar 10-11), and a full-day marketing workshop (Mar 12).
